To celebrate and elevate the cultural crossroads of being Latin@ and American.

Candles are an ancient symbol of divine life in Latin America.

They evoke the ephemeral feeling of home and childhood memories.

U.S. Latin@ are balancing cultural preservation with American values and are deeply connected to their heritage.

Bonita Fierce Candles was built for the next generation of Latinas. We are dedicated to creating premium candles inspired by Latin@ heritage and home. Done in an elevated way with clean ingredients and eco-friendly packaging as our way of sharing la cultura with the rest of the world.

    Hola! I’m Melissa Gallardo.

I founded Bonita Fierce Candles in 2020, a few months into the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout my life, I've always felt a cultural crossroads being a Latina in the United States. Navigating language, culture, and heritage has always been a challenge - the feeling what home meant. I always felt insecure in my identity as a Latina.

I was raised by Salvadorian immigrant parents who made the active decision to not teach me Spanish. For many Hispanic and Latin parents, not teaching their American children Spanish is a calculated choice with the goal being to make it easier for their children to assimilate into American culture. That was me. The fear of racism and discrimination turned a lot of people away from passing on the language, the style of our natural hair, the clothes, and so much more. I was paving my way through school, making mistakes, and figuring out how to navigate life as a brown, non-Spanish speaking Latina. Over the course of my life gradually began to extinguish my fears of not being Latina enough.

Shortly after graduating college in 2019, I leaned into the Latina community online. Online I felt most at home. I could connect with Latinas who related to my experiences, but something was missing. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, I was burning candles as a form of self-care and began making candles as a quarantine hobby. Soon I realized the scents I grew up weren't represented in the home fragrance industry. With that in mind, I set out to create Bonita Fierce Candles, a collection of candles dedicated to celebrating Latin@ heritage and home. Not only have I been able to connect further with my heritage, but Bonita Fierce Candles is a gateway to celebrate latin cultura with the rest of the world.

    Candles Con Cultura.
